• Started judo in 5th grade, won individual lightweight at high school Inter-High Tournament in 3rd year
• Entered Tsukuba University in 1985, won the Jigoro Kano Cup in October 1986
• Won All Japan Weight Category Championship in 1987, became 78kg class champion at Essen World Championship in November
• Competed in the Seoul Olympics in 1988
• Moved up to 86kg class in 1990, won Kodokan Cup, All Japan Weight Category, and Beijing Asian Games
• Won consecutive All Japan Weight Category in 1991, won Barcelona World Championship
• Won three consecutive All Japan Weight Category in 1992, competed in Barcelona Olympics
• Retired in December 1994, became coach of Tsukuba University Judo Club
• Holds 7th dan in judo, general director of Tsukuba University Judo Club
